I was first licensed as a Novice with the call KN5HWH in July 1957. Back then I worked a lot of CW with a homebrewed 6AG7 / 6L6 transmitter and a Hallicrafters S-38D receiver. The next year I upgraded to the Technician license becomming K5HWH and in 1962 I upgraded to the General license. After graduation from college I served in the Navy as a radioman.

I practiced law in Austin, Texas for nearly 30 years, raised a family and was as radio active as time permitted. I was a member of the Austin Amateur Radio Club until I left Austin.

In July 1999 I moved to the Texas Highland Lakes area and settlecd in the little town of Llano, becoming a semi-retired country lawyer. In August 2004 I upgraded to the Extra class license and in July 2007 I changed my call to W5LOG, my late father-in-law’s call sign. I am active in the Highland Lakes Amateur Radio Club and its ARES group. I am also an ARRL instructor and volunteer examiner.
